Aber nachdem gestern von den drei Sanddollar-Fragmenten, die wir am Strand gefunden haben, zwei kaputt gegangen sind, beschlie\u00dft Annika hochmotiviert, den Strand noch einmal abzusuchen. Sie findet tats\u00e4chlich einen, w\u00e4hrend Fabian noch zu m\u00fcde ist, um aus dem Zelt gekrochen zu kommen. Doch die Sanddollar haben es nicht leicht mit uns, denn beim Zeltabbau fliegt ein Hering aus Fabians Hand ungeschickterweise genau auf den frisch gefundenen, der &#8211; nat\u00fcrlich &#8211; zerbricht. Also machen wir uns eine dritte Runde auf zum Strand und mit viel Geduld finden wir schlie\u00dflich einen weiternen. In Gore, einer Stadt im Landesinneren, kaufen wir dann, um weitere ungl\u00fcckliche Unf\u00e4lle dieser Art zu vermeiden, einen kleinen Sortierkasten f\u00fcr zerbrechliche Fundst\u00fccke. Gore ist eine eigentlich kleine Stadt auf halber Strecke zwischen Meer und Gebirge, die sich aber, \u00e4u\u00dferst bescheiden, f\u00fcr die &#8220;World capital of brown trout fishing&#8221; h\u00e4lt. Wer h\u00e4tte gedacht, dass unsere Reise uns in die &#8220;World capital of trout fishing&#8221; (T\u016brangi) und jetzt sogar noch in die &#8220;World capital of brown trout fishing&#8221; (Gore) f\u00fchrt! Bevor wir schlafen gehen, packen wir unsere gro\u00dfen Rucks\u00e4cke, denn am n\u00e4chsten Morgen starten wir fr\u00fch. Wir bauen verschlafen das Zelt ab und fahren Richtung Te Anau, dort ist ein Wanderparkplatz, an dem wir unser Auto f\u00fcr die n\u00e4chsten drei Tage abstellen und von dem eine H\u00e4ngebr\u00fccke \u00fcber den Waiau River f\u00fchrt. Auf der anderen Flusseite beginnt dann der Kepler Track, ein \u00fcber 60 Kilometer langer Wanderweg durch einen kleinen Teil des Fjordland-Nationalparks, den wir in drei Tagen laufen wollen.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Das Licht f\u00e4llt malerisch durch das dichte Bl\u00e4tterdach des Uferwaldes, als wir die mit Zeltsach und Proviant f\u00fcr drei Tage bepackten Rucks\u00e4cke schultern und uns auf den Weg machen. Noch sind unsere F\u00fc\u00dfe frisch und wir kommen auf dem federnden Waldboden gut voran, zumindest wenn wir nicht gerade vom Versuch, einen Vogel auf der Kamera zu erwischen, abgelenkt sind. Unser Ziel heute ist die Iris Burn Hut, daf\u00fcr folgt unser Weg zuerst dem Waiau-River (der \u00fcbrigens einen Flussabschnitt des Anduin in Herr der Ringe verk\u00f6rpert), bis wir am Lake Manapouri, diesmal nicht beim Campingplatz, sondern auf der gegen\u00fcberliegenden Uferseite, ankommen. Der Waldboden rund um den See ist mit Farnen und Pilzen bedeckt und st\u00e4ndig kreuzen V\u00f6gel unseren Weg, wir sehen New Zealand Robins, Tomtits und zutrauliche Fantails.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Wir lassen den See an der M\u00fcndung eines Flusses mit dem Namen Iris Burn hinter uns und ab jetzt geht es langsam, aber stetig aufw\u00e4rts. Die meiste Zeit bleiben wir im Wald, Pause machen wir an einer Schutzh\u00fctte am Flussufer, wo wir freundliche Neuseel\u00e4nder*innen treffen und eine ganze Ananas verputzen.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Kurz vor der H\u00fctte verlassen wir zur Abwechslung den Wald und m\u00fcssen eine &#8220;Big Slip&#8221; genannte, sumpfige Ebene durchqueren, auf der die Holzbohlen des Weges zum gr\u00f6\u00dften Teil schon unter der Wasseroberfl\u00e4che liegen und wir gerade so trockenen Fu\u00dfes durchkommen. Circa eine Stunde vor Sonnenuntergang erreichen wir die Iris Burn H\u00fctte, wo wir auf einem wundersch\u00f6nen Natur-Zeltplatz unser Zelt aufbauen. Obwohl unsere F\u00fc\u00dfe und Fabians R\u00fccken schmerzen, machen wir noch einen Abstecher an einen Wasserfall ein St\u00fcck flussaufw\u00e4rts, bevor uns kurz nach D\u00e4mmerung noch ein Briefing zum Campingplatz vom Ranger der H\u00fctte erwartet.\u00a0<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div dir=\"auto\">Wir sind tats\u00e4chlich gespannt darauf, denn auf Schildern wird dort vor Keas gewarnt, gro\u00dfen, gr\u00fcnen Bergpapageien, die scheinbar den Campingplatz heimsuchen. Was der Ranger dann \u00fcber &#8220;the Kea situation&#8221; berichtet, sprengt unsere Vorstellung. Er erz\u00e4hlt, dass in den bewaldeten Bergh\u00e4ngen rund um H\u00fctte und Zeltplatz eine Gruppe Keas lebt, die mit der Zeit gelernt habe, dass die Zelte ein spannendes Ziel f\u00fcr kleine \u00dcberf\u00e4lle sind, vor allem, weil sich darin manchmal M\u00fcsliriegel oder N\u00fcsse finden lassen. Dabei schrecken die Papageien vor wenig zur\u00fcck. Sie k\u00f6nnen Rei\u00dfverschl\u00fcsse \u00f6ffnen, zerschneiden Zelte mit ihren Schn\u00e4beln, kommen in der Dunkelheit der Nacht und lassen sich von den Menschen in und um die Zelte ziemlich wenig beeindrucken. Das alles zeigt beeindruckend die Intelligenz und Lernf\u00e4higkeit der Keas, die sogar soweit geht, dass sie, obwohl eigentlich tagaktiv, ihre Aktivit\u00e4ten rund um den Zeltplatz erst im Dunkeln starten.\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Wir &#8211; und unser Zelt &#8211; haben den Umst\u00e4nden entsprechend ganz gute Karten, die Nacht unbeschadet zu \u00fcberstehen, da die Keas zwar immer noch jede Nacht kommen, aber in den letzten Wochen etwas weniger Schaden angerichtet haben; davor konnte man damit rechnen, dass die H\u00e4lfte aller Zelte morgens L\u00f6cher hatte! Laut dem Ranger kam es au\u00dferdem im Sommer zu mehreren F\u00e4llen, in denen Keas nachts in Zelte geh\u00fcpft kamen und dort ein riesengro\u00dfes Chaos angerichtet (und die darin Schlafenden vermutlich zu Tode erschrocken) haben. Sp\u00e4ter auf unserer Tour treffen wir auch noch eine Franz\u00f6sin, die von befreundeten Wanderern erz\u00e4hlt, deren Zelt vor ein paar Monaten in einer Sommernacht einmal der L\u00e4nge nach aufgeschlitzt wurde. Wir hoffen also, dass die Keas nicht ausgerechnet heute ihre etwas sanftere Phase beenden und bringen alles an Gep\u00e4ck, was wir nicht unbedingt im Zelt brauchen, in einen Kea-sicheren Holzverschlag (der aber leider nicht m\u00e4usesicher ist, was zumindest zwei L\u00f6cher in Annikas Rucksack am n\u00e4chsten Morgen vermuten lassen).<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Der Ranger bereitet uns aber nicht nur auf die Keas vor, sondern gibt den Zeltenden noch den Tipp, unter der Wurzel eines umgefallenen Baums nach Glowworms zu schauen und auf dem Weg dorthin nach Kiwis Ausschau zu halten und zu horchen, er imitiert \u00fcberraschend gut die verschiedenen Rufe m\u00e4nnlicher und weiblicher V\u00f6gel. Die Aussicht auf Glowworms und noch dazu die eventuelle Chance, Kiwis zu sehen, durchkreuzt unser Vorhaben, m\u00fcde und erledigt wie wir sind, schnell in die Schlafs\u00e4cke zu schl\u00fcpfen. Wir machen uns also mit rot leuchtender Stirnlampe (um keine Kiwis zu blenden) auf den Weg und tats\u00e4chlich sind wir gar nicht lange gelaufen, als Annika vor uns ganz deutlich einen Kiwi um einen Baum huschen sieht. Wir bleiben wie versteinert stehen und k\u00f6nnen ihn etwas weiter entfernt vor uns auf dem Waldweg picken sehen. Ihn? Tats\u00e4chlich stellt sich der Kiwi als Kiwiweibchen heraus, denn es streckt den Schnabel in die H\u00f6he und ruft den unverkennbaren Schrei weiblicher Kiwis in den Wald hinein. Wir k\u00f6nnen die Begegnung kaum glauben, nachdem der Vogel vom Weg ins Dickicht verschwunden ist, aber lange haben wir gar nicht Zeit, da huscht vermutlich der gleiche Kiwi noch einmal \u00fcber den Weg. Dieses Mal verschwindet er sofort zwischen B\u00fcschen, bleibt dort aber in Blickweite, sodass wir mehrere Minuten beobachten k\u00f6nnen, wie er mit seinem langen Schnabel im Boden herumpickt. Besser kann man einen Kiwi in der Wildnis kaum sehen, was ein Gl\u00fcck!<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Die Glowworms, eigentliches Ziel unseres n\u00e4chtlichen Ausflugs sind dann auch faszinierend. Im Dunkeln der Baumwurzeln h\u00e4ngen um die hundert bl\u00e4ulich gl\u00fchende Punkte, Larven einer M\u00fccke, die in <span lang=\"mi\">Te Reo M\u0101ori titiwai hei\u00dft. Um unsere Sachen aus dem Holzverschlag zu holen, macht sich Fabian auf den Weg durch den dunklen Wald, verirrt sich erstmal und stolpert dann, damit m\u00fcssen wir unser Tiergl\u00fcck f\u00fcr die ganze Reise eigentlich aufgebraucht haben, fast \u00fcber einen Kiwi! Da er erstmal im Geb\u00fcsch neben dem Weg zu bleiben scheint, holt Fabian schnell Annika aus dem Zelt und gemeinsam k\u00f6nnen wir, aus vielleicht zweieinhalb Metern , in aller Ruhe einen Kiwi bei der Nahrungssuche beobachten. Drei Kiwisichtungen in einer Nacht &#8211; wir sind sehr gl\u00fccklich.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Beim Zeltabbau wird es dann nochmal spannend. Im D\u00e4mmerlicht des fr\u00fchen Morgens, noch bevor der Himmel im Osten heller zu werden beginnt, h\u00f6ren wir auf einmal das Ger\u00e4usch gro\u00dfer schlagender Fl\u00fcgel und auf einmal h\u00fcpft, zwei Meter vor unserem Zelt, ein gro\u00dfer, gr\u00fcner Kea aus dem hohen Gras. Fabian versucht ihn mutig wegzuhoohen (wie uns der Ranger empfohlen hat), aber der Vogel zeigt sich davon g\u00e4nzlich unbeeindruckt. Auch die Empfehlung, zu klatschen und auf ihn zuzugehen, bewirkt nur, dass er in kleinen H\u00fcpfern immer so weit wegh\u00fcpft, dass er genau in sicherer Distanz ist, dreht man ihm dann den R\u00fccken zu, ist der gro\u00dfe Papagei sofort wieder auf dem Weg zum Zelt. Kein Wunder, dass wir deshalb einen neuen Rekord im Abbau unseres Zeltes aufstellen. Erst als wir die H\u00fctte hinter uns gelassen haben und der steile Anstieg entlang der Flanke des Flusstals beginnt, sind wir sicher, dass unser Zelt &#8211; und wir &#8211; die Nacht unbeschadet \u00fcberstanden haben.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Unsere Etappe heute startet hart. Wir laufen den Kepler Track im Uhrzeigersinn, andersherum als die meisten anderen, was den Vorteil hat, dass die Zeltpl\u00e4tze geschickter liegen und wir fast immer allein auf unserem Wegst\u00fcck sind. Nachteil ist, dass der Anstieg auf den Gebirgszug, um dessen Grate und Gipfel sich der Weg oben windet, fies ist. Als wir endlich die Baumgrenze erreichen, werden wir mit dem Ausblick auf die gebirgige Landschaft und der ersten Schutzh\u00fctte in Sichtweite belohnt, wo wir uns Porridge zum Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck machen und unseren Beinen eine kurze Verschnaufpause g\u00f6nnen. Der neunj\u00e4hrige Junge, der mit seiner Mutter ebenfalls gerade Rast macht, erz\u00e4hlt uns, dass er zwar noch nicht oft Wandern, aber schon oft Jagen war. Willkommen in Neuseeland&#8230; Vom &#8220;Rocky Shelter&#8221; f\u00fchrt der Weg durch felsig-grasiges Terrain und bietet in alle Richtungen Ausblicke auf die hohen Berge\u00a0 Fjordlands mit schneebedeckten Gipfeln, das Farm und Weideland rund um Te Anau und die gro\u00dfen Seen \u00f6stlich der Berge. Der Weg f\u00fchrt \u00fcber S\u00e4ttel und Grate, entlang tiefer T\u00e4ler und &#8211; als kleiner Abstecher &#8211; auf den Gipfel des Mount Luxmore. Ein St\u00fcck unterhalb des Gipfels haben wir nochmal Tiergl\u00fcck und sehen einen Kea. Gr\u00fcn wie er ist, ist er zwischen den Gras- und Moosb\u00fcscheln gut getarnt, aber wir haben Gl\u00fcck und entdecken ihn schon im n\u00e4hert sich immer weiter der Baumgrenze. An der Luxmore Hut, die wir ein wenig sp\u00e4ter erreichen, erwartet uns der Ranger der H\u00fctte, der uns empfiehlt, auf dem Abstieg nach den vielen verschiedenen Pilzen Ausschau zu halten und &#8211; alle guten Dinge sind Drei &#8211; ein Kea, der auf dem Dach der H\u00fctte sitzt und laut ruft.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Der Weg hinunter zum Lake Te Anau ist lange und beschwerlich und zieht sich endlos hin. Annikas F\u00fc\u00dfe haben langsam genug vom vielen Rumgelaufe und fangen an, ziemlich wehzutun. Angesichts des Weges, der noch vor uns liegt, machen wir erst einmal eine Pause, aber als wir auf dem Weg sitzen, h\u00f6ren wir hinter uns etwas flattern. Wir drehen uns um und dort sitzt Kea Nr. 4 auf einem Ast, nur zwei Meter von uns entfernt und beobachtet uns, den Kopf zur Seite geneigt, sichtlich interessiert. Er l\u00e4sst uns genug Zeit, um ein paar Fotos zu machen und fliegt dann ein St\u00fcck weiter in den Wald hinein. Zeit f\u00fcr uns, weiterzuwandern und endlich kommen wir, m\u00fcde und mit Schmerzen am ganzen K\u00f6rper, am Zeltplatz am Ufer des Lake Te Anau an.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Der dritte Tag auf dem Kepler Track verl\u00e4uft insgesamt unspektakul\u00e4r aber auf einem sch\u00f6nen Waldweg. Zum Gl\u00fcck ist die letzte Etappe k\u00fcrzer (&#8220;nur&#8221; 16 km) und wir kommen schon Mittags am Auto an, wo wir uns als allererstes Nutellawraps machen. eine Tour zum und durch den Milford Sound. Da wir auf unserem Flexipass, mit dem wir in den Intercitybussen auf der Nordinsel unterwegs waren, noch Fahrtzeit \u00fcbrig haben, k\u00f6nnen wir den Bus dar\u00fcber buchen und m\u00fcssen nur das Boot zus\u00e4tzlich zahlen, wodurch das ganze gar nicht so teuer wird. Die Busfahrt selbst gestaltet sich unterhaltsamer als wir dachten, der Fahrer schafft es n\u00e4mlich, die drei Stunden bis zur Spitze des Fjords am St\u00fcck Geschichten \u00fcber Milford Sound, Neuseeland allgemein und jede Kleinigkeit, die rechts und links der Stra\u00dfe auftaucht, parat zu haben. Unerwartet kommen auch die Fotostopps auf der Fahrt, die wir damit verbringen, nicht nur die Landschaft, sondern auch unsere Mitreisenden beim Posen zu beobachten.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Auf den Milford Sound (Busfahrerwissen: Korrekt m\u00fcsste es Milford Fjord hei\u00dfen, Sounds und Fjorde entstehen unterschiedlich) geht es dann per Boot. Wir gehen nat\u00fcrlich gleich rauf aufs Sonnendeck, wohin sich beim Ablegen aus dem Hafen noch ein paar wenige Sonnenstrahlen hin verirren, die aber schnell durch die ersten Tropfen und dann durch einen ordentlichen Bergregen abgel\u00f6st werden (Busfahrerwissen: 260 Tage im Jahr regnet es hier). Wir halten tapfer weiter auf dem Sonnendeck durch, was uns mit guter Sicht auf ein paar wirklich sch\u00f6ne Wasserf\u00e4lle belohnt, von denen es im Milford Sound eine handvoll gro\u00dfer, von B\u00e4chen gespeiste gibt und unz\u00e4hlige gro\u00dfe und kleine, die tempor\u00e4r nach Regenf\u00e4llen entstehen. Die Tage vor unserem Besuch waren eher trocken, aber trotzdem sind um die 30 eher kleinere aktiv und spucken immer noch Wasser vom letzten Regen aus. Im Hafen steigen wir wieder in unseren Bus um und fahren dann, diesmal ohne Busfahrerkommentar, zur\u00fcck nach Te Anau, wobei lediglich eine von Hunden die Stra\u00dfe entlang getriebene Bullenherde, die den Verkehr kurzzeitig lahmlegt, erw\u00e4hnenswert ist.<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div><div dir=\"auto\">Abends scheitern wir daran, schnell noch die n\u00e4chsten Tage zu planen und beschlie\u00dfen deshalb, noch einen Tag l\u00e4nger in Manapouri zu bleiben, wo unser (in Neuseeland neu entdecktes) Ornithologenherz Gelegenheit bekommt, h\u00f6her zu
